| There's no better way to start than by choosing a sunny spot for your garden. Most vegetables need six to eight hours of direct sun a day. Leafy greens can thrive with a bit less. The ideal garden location has loose soil that drains well. If your soil isn't perfect, you can improve it over time by adding organic matter such as compost. | |
| Let the children choose what they'd like to grow. Most often, these will be plants they recognize, such as pumpkins and potatoes. Plants with large seeds, such as beans, sunflowers, and nasturtiums, are easiest for small hands to sow. | |

| Azaleas and Rhododendrons are shrubs for all seasons. In the winter, some stand out with enormous evergreen leaves. In the spring and summer, the flowers on the shrub are vibrantly colored, while in the fall the leaves turn a deep green and enhance the look of your garden. | |
